Dropping the Idea of How “IT” Should Look: YES. It’s Possible for You.

Here, I was.

On the side of the road.

In my hometown.

Being pulled over for driving 5 miles above the speed limit (eye roll).

As the officer came up to my car, asking me why I was speeding, I apologized.

I told him I didn’t realize I was speeding and that I was just trying to make it to my yoga class on time.

He asked for my license and registration and walked to his car.

He came back shortly, handing over my license and registration.

Officer: “Excuse me, um, mam. It says you still live in Martinez? And we have you listed as an officer spouse or partner? So I’m just curious, can you tell me your affiliation? And it doesn’t appear you actually live in Martinez…?”

Me: Random uncontrollable sobs begin … along with the story of my breakup. {Officer looking extremely uncomfortable}.

Me: Continuing on with how my ex is in law enforcement and how he must have put me on the confidential list {insert random snot coming out of my nose throughout uncontrollable sobbing}.

Officer: Hands me a tissue and tells me to get home safe.

Since that incident, a little over 2 years ago, I’ve been trying to get off that special confidential list.

I wanted to fully be free from the past, so I could fully move forward into my future.

And a few weeks ago, I got what I wanted.

You see, what kept me stuck in the beginning was not thinking outside the box.

Thinking it could only be done one way, by following one set of rules.

Because I was stuck in fear and decided I was powerless.

But, once I decided to drop my fear and take back my power, I was able to think outside the box and find a different way.

A way that looked nothing like I originally imagined but a way that worked and got me my wanted end result.

And that wanted end result was worth that free feeling and all the angst it took me to get there.

So – wherever you are right now in your life – if you feel stuck – I want to let you know that there may be a gazillion other ways to get to where you want to go, but you just can’t see them right now because you’re knee-deep in fear.

And that’s OK. Honor it.

I’ve been there (many, many a time). We all have. It’s part of being a human being.

But the thing is, you can release your fear and surrender to other possibilities at anytime.

You just need to drop the idea of how you think “it’s” going to look. Or, maybe how you think “it” should look – whether it’s your body, your relationship status, or your happiness.

Because it’s that idea of how it “should be” that keeps you using only one crayon … and did you know that there can be over 120 colors in the crayon box!??:)

So use them. Play with them. Paint a new picture.

And keep using new colors until you find one that works because when you keep showing up, you will find a new way (… even if it takes you over 2 years, like me).

Because I promise it’s worth it:)
